HARVESTED October 1, 2009
VINEYARD
The vineyard is located at an elevation of 1350’ high above Lake Hennessey in an area known as Pritchard Hill with well-drained rocky red volcanic soil and fortunate sun exposure above the cloud line. Temperature variations are more moderate than in Oakville at a lower elevation leading to the development of ideal definition and intensity of flavors. Strategic planting and diligent canopy management during the growing season oset intense sun and windy conditions.
VINTAGE
The 2009 vintage from a winemaker’s point of view was split into two harvests, grapes picked before and after the rain. The rain arrived thirteen days after BRAND harvested on October 1st. The growing season was temperate which lead to balanced wines with lower than normal sugar levels, bright natural acidity and excellent flavor and tannin maturation.
VINFICATION
The 2009 vintage was fermented in Stainless Steel on the skins for 25 days. 83% new French oak barrels from four different cooperages were utilized. The wine was bottled using gravity ow
without fining and filtration.
