This stunning Cabernet Sauvignon puts forth a magnificent nose of licorice, graphite, with concentrated black fruits and hints of truffle and toasted oak. On the palate, its powerful yet elegant tannins engulf the senses with layers of dark cherry, blackberry, cassis and dark chocolate, culminating with a finish you’ll enjoy long after the final sip.

HAVESTED September 18th - October 2nd, 2013

VINEYARD At an elevation of up to 1600 feet overlooking Lake Hennessey on Pritchard Hill, is the well-drained rocky red volcanic soil above the cloud and fog line; the ultimate vineyard environment of BRAND.

VINTAGE Growers and vintners are proclaiming the 2013 vintage close to perfect. Vines produced healthy canopies and tight clusters with small, uniform berries and thick skins – a perfect scenario. Light rain in September slowed sugar accumulation to normal rates, giving way to the most optimum flavor profiles.

VINIFICATION Grapes were sorted in the field and winery, and then fermented in small, jacketed stainless steel tanks. Barrel aging occurred in 70% new French Oak for 21 months before the wine was then bottled without fining or filtration.

The Wine Advocate — 98pts

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 21 months in 70% new French oak, is a small cuvée of just under 400 cases. It is certainly a magnificent wine with an inky purple color and a beautiful nose of blueberry, boysenberry and other black fruits interwoven with white flowers, and backed up by fabulous concentration, a multilayered mouthfeel and tremendous purity. Lots of Cabernet’s classic cassis fruits are present and the new oak component pushed well to the background because of the extravagant concentration and richness. This wine comes from a vineyard slightly higher than the nearby Colgin Estate IX Vineyard, which it backs up to. Drink 2016 to 2040.
